Andrew Allen Moore was born in
Kingston-upon-Hull, East Yorkshire, England. For many years he has lived and
worked on the South coast of England, in
Hampshire. He has an honours degree in Electrical & Electronic
Engineering and is a member of the Institute of Scientific
& Technical Communicators. He is also a tutor for the
ISTC Open Learning Courses in technical communication
techniques and technical authoring.

A
Military Apprenticeship
I
served my
apprenticeship as a Junior Technical Author by writing manuals for satellite communications equipment
to US and UK military specifications.
Moving
Into Commerce
After
learning to write to strict specifications, I moved into the commercial world and
worked for various engineering companies, including
Schlumberger, Racal, and NTL. During this time I learned
how to make manuals more user-friendly and started
developing company house-styles using the Apple Macintosh
and later, reluctantly, transferred to the PC.
Through
on-the-job training, and the good luck to be part of
several progressive authoring teams, I became proficient word processing, DTP,
illustration and photo-editing applications, as my role as
a Technical Author expanded.
Eventually...
Consultancy
Latterly,
as a Technical Communications Consultant, my role has
expanded further to include the design of marketing and sales literature, company intranets, online help and
websites.
As
a freelance, I am now able to offer my expertise to small
businesses, organisations and individuals anywhere in the
world.
